In 2002, CRYSTAL GARDENS opened the BARN SWALLOW. Owner, Wendell built this structure with the assistance of his LANDSCAPE crew and family members. Not only did he have a passion for plants he enjoyed antiques and things....
Resembling a good old-fashioned barn the building provides interesting retail space. Daughter #2, Kelly heads up this operation and has assembled a delightful combination of art, antiques, gift ideas and vintage clothing. Wendell also displays his original Michigan stone creations….lamps, jewelry, gift items…here’s your chance to purchase the coveted Petoskey stone!

the ‘BIRD’! Oh yah, he’s still here. As elusive as he is at times, we extended the Nature Exhibit to include some of his friends. THU, short for Thuja (botanical for arborvitae) is the resident peacock. He has been with us eight years now and has thrilled many a child. Not everyone can say they stood inches away or even touched the most awesome BIRD in the world! He usually ‘struts his stuff’ in #6 greenhouse but you could run into him anywhere. The Barn Swallow also showcases an herb garden with a pond and waterfalls feature. If that wasn’t enough he added a NATURE EXHIBIT. Approximately 3,300 square feet of native Michigan butterflies, reptiles, fish and bees. He wanted to share all the things he loved growing up here in northern Michigan. We will be adding a collection of native plants in July, 2009 to coincide with this display.. |
